Da-deet-da-deet...A Southern California couple went on the Dr. Phil program and admitted to shoplifting and using their children as a diversion. They said they sold what the stole for over $100,000. The law caught up with the couple, and they were sentenced to prison. Said the judge in their case of Dr. Phil, "What a charlatan this man is." Observed the black-rober, he promotes himself as someone who helps people, "but he certainly didn't help you."
Da-deet-da-deet...Top clerics in Yemen oppose a ban on child brides. Legislation banning marriage before age 17 was repealed, and appears likely to stay that way. A quarter of Yemeni girls are sold into marriage by the time they are 15. It’s just business, you know.
Da-deet-da-deet...A former California deputy pleaded guilty to having sex with a minor. He was 39; she was 13. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison; considerably more time than is given to drunk drivers who kill people.
Da-deet-da-deet...For those praying that Somalia get itself together, consider this sentence from a New York Times article: "One American official recently conceded that Somalia's ‘best hope’ was the government's new military chief, a 60-year-old former artillery officer who, until a few months ago, was assistant manager at a McDonald's in suburban Germany."
Da-deet-da-deet...There’s a reason why some folks are concerned that former eBay chief Meg Whitman may be trying to buying the governorship of California. Since the beginning of the year, she has spent more than $27 million, and she leads her primary opponent by 50 points.
Da-deet-da-deet...And finally, more brilliantly-spent research money. Two professors who studied 52 paintings of the Last Supper produced over the last thousand years, and another thousand since the alleged event, say they have determined that the portion sizes of the meals have grown by two-thirds. They say it’s because of the success of agriculture.
