Disunited We Fall
It’s tough to be a right-winger these days. These dim-bulb red sheep are much more neo than con. In fact they have little in common with true conservatives. These neoliths, whose motto is never to let facts get in the way of opinion, stand foursquare against reason, and have develop a substantial following based on misinformation. Their problem of late is that events are slapping ‘em in the face, leaving them with egg dripping from their features.
The mess in the Gulf of Mexico is a good example. The drill-baby-drill folks have been forced to back off the notion that oil is the way to go. I suppose we should be lucky that their comeuppance didn’t occur in the nuclear arena.
Another case in point is the thorny issue of terrorists being allowed to buy guns. The gummint has a list of folks whom they deem too scary to fly our friendly skies, but the wing-nuts are adamant that they shouldn’t be barred from purchasing weapons. People who commit domestic violence and convicted felons are restricted, but not suspected terrorists?
And then there’s the matter of immigration. The desperate and ardent insist on building a wall on our southern border. But what about the 15,000,000 illegal immigrants already here? They have no plan for them. But isn’t that the converse of closing the barn door after the horse has bolted?
I actually sympathize with them on these issues because we need energy, we don’t want terrorists running around dangerous, and having all of those non-citizens in our country is destructive of the very notion of a nation, not to mention the economic drain, and the criminality.
The bottom line is that none of these issues will be resolved until we are all united in our efforts to get America back on track. Regrettably, the concept of united-we-stand seems to have slipped from our nationalist lexicon, which largely explains why we have so much unresolved and needing attention today.
